Why we chose to manufacture in China.
We at BaseLayer believe in being the change. This is why we chose to manufacture in China despite the “made in china” stigma. We chose China not for profits but for their leadership and advancements in the textile and manufacturing industry. We believe that by making conscious and mindful decisions through all aspects of our brand, we can change this. We selectively source from factories that prioritize the process, quality and its workforce. With their advanced manufacturing processes, our factories are able to implement sustainable practices while maintaining quality more efficiently. For example, our factories are committed to using 30% less water in production and pay its workers 15% above industry averages.
Our mission at BaseLayer is dedicated to breaking negative stigmas and shaking the status quo. Yes! We manufacture in China and we are proud of being able to empower the factories who are doing it right, providing safe and fair working environments for workers while maintaining unmatched quality over profits. This means a higher cost for us, but we feel that its worth it.
Why not manufacture locally?
To ensure the best quality work for our designs specifically we have chosen to work with factories with the most expertise in our niche which happen to be in Asia. We are committed to sourcing the perfect fabrics paired with quality made basics. We are proud of our brand and while local manufacturing isn’t for right now, it does not mean we will stop exploring alternatives that are able to increase our sustainable practices while maintaining quality.
